The official name of our organisation, Te Taiope Huringanui - Turning Point Trust, is designed to represent:
Te Taiope - the tide of people moving forward (like waves at sea)
Huringanui - a turning point in someone’s life
Together, these words mean the tide of waves (people), moving forward to a positive turning point in life.
Our ūara - organisational values also represent a strength-based holistic approach to wellbeing:
Te Wairua o Te Whakaaronui - Generosity of Spirit
Taumata Mana Ararau - Person Directed Action
He Whakaaro Pai - Making a Positive Difference
Te Whatahiapo Mana Tangata - Actively Embracing Te Tiriti o Waitangi
Mana Tika, Mana Ora, Mana āke - Justice and Social Equity
Our Māramataka-ā-tāu yearly operational calendar is split into four quarters; each represents a facet of the Te Whare Tapa Whā model of wellbeing:
January - March; Pou Wairua (Spiritual Wellbing)
April - June; Pou Tinana (Physical Wellbeing)
July - September; Pou Hinengaro (Mental & Emotional Wellbeing)
October - December; Pou Whanau (Social Wellbeing)
During each quarter, we plan activities and programmes to focus on the different elements of wellbeing. Incorporating Tikanga Māori (Māori practices and values) into our organisation enhances our approach to wellbeing for all tangata whai ora and kaimahi.
